It is time for another premiere here at Lemonade Magazine! This one comes straight out of Brooklyn, NY from a band called EXNATIONS. Their brand new single “Can’t Get Hurt” is a prelude to their debut EP, Tiny Sound In The Dark, due out later this year. Although the band calls Brooklyn home, the trio, consisting of lead vocalist/guitarist Sal Mastrocola, drummer Taylor Hughes and guitarist Dan Ciarrocchi, is actually spread out across two states (New York and Maryland). Their music is recorded with home equipment and sewn together with file sharing and home production software.
The aforementioned single, “Can’t Get Hurt”, focuses on overcoming personal anxiety. The song is meant to be an anthem ultimately representing the feeling you get when you finally come to terms with it. In the words of lead singer, Sal Mastrocola: “This song is about celebration. A realization that if you can look your anxiety in the eye and be comfortable with it being there – you can live with it. This song is a celebration of the moment that anxiety’s weight is lifted. In that moment, you might as well dance.”
Sure, social media and technology has its downfalls, but stories like this one just go to show you that using it for the creative greater good is one of the things that makes the time we live in pretty damn exciting. So without further adieu, we are very excited to premiere “Can’t Get Hurt” by EXNATIONS.
