If you don’t know who Blondfire is yet, chances are you have probably heard their latest hit, “Where The Kids Are”. Not only have I heard it in pretty much every café, bar or retail store I have walked into lately, but the song is also featured on one of Honda’s commercials for their Civic model.
Brother and sister Bruce and Erica Driscoll bring the world an alternative pop sound that I would describe as infectious, but that would be a terrible understatement. I was lucky enough to get a quick interview with Erica while on tour! Here is how it went.

Erica Driscoll: The very condensed story is that we continued to write more Blondfire material, but also spent time working on other projects, co-writing for different artists, writing music for commercials and we moved to Los Angeles.
LM: You guys grew up spending summers in Brazil being that your mom is Brazilian. What sort of impact – if any at all – did that have on you stylistically?
Erica: It definitely had a big influence on us. Being able to escape to this whole other world for the summer always felt very magical to me, and music is such a big part of the culture and lifestyle there. I’m a sucker for the bittersweet Bossa Nova melodies and I think we definitely have a bit of that in our music.
LM: As strange as it may sound, your sound always reminds me of the west coast, yet you guys originated in New York City. Where do you tend to draw the most inspiration from?
Erica: I feel like I get inspiration from so many things and traveling in general, not so much from a specific city. Sometimes even something as mundane as people watching can give you an idea or randomly reading a word or phrase.
LM: You are about to embark on a tour with two other personal favorite bands of mine, AWOLNATION and Mother Mother, what are you most looking forward to touring with them?
Erica: We’re definitely excited to be on the road with both these bands. It’s such a cool experience to be able to share the stage with people you admire and genuinely enjoy watching them do their thing. We’re also excited to be able to perform in front of these awesome crowds and meet the fans in person.Image may be NSFW.

LM: For fans who haven’t seen you guys live, what can they expect from a Blondfire live show?
Erica: We try to recreate the recorded sound live as much as possible and we give our all to entertain.
LM: Are there any new music or movies/tv shows you hope to catch up on while on the road?
Erica: At SXSW we were lucky enough to see the Passion Pit, Wildcat Wildcat Show which was great, and we all have our different tv series we’re into and try to catch up on. I’m almost finished with all the Breaking Bad on Netflix. It’s so good! Also, watching episodes of John C. Reilly as Dr. Steve Brule in Check It Out always cheers us up in the van. We’re kind of obsessed.
LM: Now that the EP has had a chance to really get some recognition (thanks to the Honda Civic commercial as well), can we expect a new full-length any time soon?
Erica: The Honda Civic spot was such an amazing thing! Yeah, our full-length, Young Heart, is ready to go. We’re just waiting on an official release date from our label, Warner Bros, but it should be really soon!
