Inertia - The ProcessThere are times that even when the style of music is not in your typical wheelhouse, but because there is an immense amount of appreciation for the craftsmanship, talent and pure musicality of an artist or band that there is no way to not like it. This is the case with a Costa Mesa, California-based alternative rock band Inertia. While calling them an alt-rock band is a bit too broad honestly. Their roots are deeply metal with splash of punk and heavy dose of post-hardcore and their upcoming album, The Process, is a perfect and harmonious effort that encompasses everything great about heavy guitar-driven rock with intense, high-paced percussion and growling and powerhouse vocals.

Normally, an album of this type is one note. Yes, that is a gross generalization, but think about it. Typical metal bands find a sound, identify with it and they stick to it song after song. It is what they know and it is what they want to know. Inertia is in a different realm with their music. There is continuity, for sure, but while the majority is an emotional, high-tempo thrill ride there are moments of clarity and sanity, like “Heartless Nobody”, that gives a split second to exhale. This particular track is not gentle by any means, but it is a slight reprieve from the thundering percussion with a classic and wonderfully timed guitar solo that is as heartbreaking as the song itself.

If there is a need for something a little more gritty or angry, then “Guilty Crown” is the track. The lead cut from The Process is a raw and powerful song that shows off the vocal versatility and depth of vocalist and pianist Dillon Forst as well as the band’s cohesiveness. While drummer Joshua Alves hammers away at a ridiculous pace, guitarist Zack Harris and bassist Andrew Chavez shred with reckless abandon, but even with the unrelenting aggressiveness, the production is brilliantly balanced.

There is no doubt that Inertia would be a spectacle live. Their boundless energy throughout The Process is impressive to say the least. This is probably the best post-hardcore albums so far in 2017 and something extremely special would have to come along to knock it out of its perch.

The Process by Inertia will be available on June 2, 2017, but pre-order the album: HERE. And do not forget to check out the official video for “Guilty Crown” below!
