DRMCTHRIn the world of alternative music, the genre seems to be a catch-all for a style that just does not seem to fit any other type of music. And because of that we continue to fragment the genre into sub-genres. Stumbling across a band that blurs the lines between indie rock and alternative is something that piques the senses. Having been through significant change in the band’s membership, the alt-rock group decided that a fresh start and a re-branding was necessary. Baltimore-based DRMCTHR (formerly spelled as Dreamcatcher) decided that stylizing their name would grant new life. In a way, exercising their demons. Well, their rebirth and re-imagining garnered our attention on their forthcoming LP, Hold Your Love.

DRMCTHR, now consisting of vocalist Chelsea Tyler, guitarist Bryan Czap, bassist Craig Perkins and drummer Billy Wahler, have spend the better part of 4 years developing and re-developing their sound and it has emerged as a dark, brooding album that is filled with stinging guitar riffs and an insidious, almost apocalyptic, soundscape. With the haunting, raw vocals from Tyler, the 11-track album is filled with the turmoil and triumphs of the band’s rocky journey creating Hold Your Love.

“We’ve spent every second of time, every dollar, everything on this record for the past 4 years. We struggled with keeping the band together, wrote with different musicians, went through different versions of the mixes, re-tracked some of the record – basically, everything that could go wrong while making a record did,” Chelsea Tyler reminisces. “There were days where we didn’t know if the band would make it, if the record would come out, or if we’d even finish the record. Every step forward would be followed with a road block, and then a few steps back. Every song has a story about the creation of this album. During the creation of this record we lost friendships, bandmates, were in a van accident – again, everything went wrong. But, we persevered and created something that we are so proud of.”

Without these trials, who knows if DRMCTHR would have been able to produce such a heartfelt, real album. And as Tyler stated, these obstacles shaped and molded the band into what they are. DRMCTHR is a band that has re-dedicated themselves to each other, survived the worst that they could endure and still created music out of that darkness that is bright with hope.

The new album, Hold Your Love, by DRMCTHR will be available on November 17, 2017, but you can pre-order the album on LimitedRun now! In the mean time, check out the debut single off the new LP, “Apartment”, below on SoundCloud.
