Over the last year, the Los Angeles-based Sleeptalk, consisting of lead singer Anthony Fitzpatrick, guitarists Jason Fitzpatrick and Justin Melchor, bassist Paul McGill and drummer Tyler Kusnier, have been steadily building up their fan base after the release of their debut album, Young. Well, the electro-pop alt-rock band have added a new single, “I Hope You’re Doing Well”, to their catalog. The slightly depressing, brooding anthem is a masterclass on taking a catchy guitar riff, an upbeat style and blending it with the emotive and melancholy vocals. “I Hope You’re Doing Well” was presented as a great breakup track, if you suffered Valentine’s Day alone.
“This song is about that feeling you feel when you and your love break up,” Anthony Fitzpatrick, vocalist for Sleeptalk, said. “You are so devastated you feel like dying. The hook in this song, “You broke my heart and oh I’m so sad, I could die” explains that feeling. I went through a breakup recently and this is the song that came from that.”
There is no misdirection or misinterpreting the meaning behind the song. It is about being left behind, but still, in a way, wishing the best for your former flame even though it hurts. It is honest and well-balanced track that is radio-friendly.
