Juliet Simms - From The GraveFor us alternative music – or as some may say “emo” – fans, the summer has been a bit of a roller coaster. Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday are on tour. Yellowcard also announced a tour, but it came with the additional news that it would be their last. Leave it to Juliet Simms to bring our spirits up again with a brand new EP, From The Grave.

Now the term EP is used a little loosely with this release, since it is actually eight songs long, so it’s kind of between a conventional EP and LP. The former lead singer of Automatic Loveletter has danced in and out of the shadows since we first featured her in Lemonade back in 2010 and each time she shows up she rarely disappoints.

From The Grave features a collection of tracks that Juliet Simms wrote over the past few years. Most of the themes are dealing with rising above life’s struggles. To compliment the motif, the opening tracks come in with boot stomping, hard hitting beats. Very much what we would expect from the rebellious Juliet Simms. “Tidal Wave” immediately stands out as one of the strongest tracks and the almost James Bond sounding “Frances”, although somewhat darker in theme, is a nice change of pace melodically.

The EP ends on a stripped down note with “Phoenix” and “Found Missing”. Personally, this is when I love Simms the most. These songs have her at her most honest and vulnerable state and that ability is what separates Juliet Simms from other artists.

Obviously we would love to see a full album release from Juliet Simms here in the future, but this collection of songs does give us something to whet our appetites for now. I knew she was something special back in 2010 and I stand behind that six years later.

From The Grave will be available on July 15, 2016. Get a taste of it below with the lyric video for “Phoenix”. You can also pre-order the album on her website: HERE.
